By raising $17,011 in 2003, employees
of Walton Electric Membership Corporation have come out on top
of the Walton County March of Dimes WalkAmerica for the for
the fifth consecutive year. In all, Walton EMC employees have
raised over $78,000 to benefit the charity.
"Our employees worked hard all year for the March of Dimes,"
said Kathy Ivie, WalkAmerica coordinator for Walton EMC. "We
held golf tournaments, chicken bar-be-ques, sold Valentine
and Easter baskets and had all sorts of other fundraisers.
Our employees really enjoy working for such a great cause."
Walton EMC is a five-star sponsor of the Walton County WalkAmerica.
The March of Dimes is the national non-profit organization
whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing
birth defects and infant mortality.
Walton EMC is a consumer-owned electric company serving
over 100,000 accounts in ten Northeast Georgia counties. The
co-op's headquarters are in Monroe with satellite offices
in Snellville and Watkinsville.
