Walton Electric Membership Corporation
(EMC) was recognized with several awards for its communications
and public relations efforts at the Cooperative Communicators
Association (CCA) Institute held recently in Madison Wisconsin.
First, a news release announcing and explaining the 2002
capital credit refund won an honorable mention in the news
release category.
The Walton EMC 65th Anniversary Annual Report earned
second place in its class, scoring 96 out of 100 points. Judges
complemented the report on its historic photos and theme.
Finally, the co-op won first place in small shop portfolio.
Small shop portfolio is open to organizations with only one
professional communicator on staff. Entrants vying for this
category submit a work portfolio of six samples of various
projects produced over the past year.
There were more than 700 entries in the 2003 CCA competition.
CCA is a national organization of communications professionals
who work for a variety of cooperatives, including electric,
telephone, agricultural and finance. CCA's diverse membership
includes such notable co-ops as Land O' Lakes, Sunkist, Nationwide
Insurance and CUNA. 2003 marks the group's 50th anniversary.
Established in 1936, Walton EMC is a consumer-owned electric
company with 100,000 accounts in ten Northeast Georgia counties
between Atlanta and Athens.
