Walton Electric Membership Corporation
(EMC) employees have been rewarded for their hard work in the
fight against cancer by receiving two first place awards at
the Walton County Relay for Life. This is the first year a Walton
EMC team has entered the fundraising competition.
The employees won first place in
the top-dollar, large business category by donating $9,000
to the American Cancer Society. The money was raised through
a variety of methods including a yard sale, employee lunches,
raffles and the Power of Hope motorcycle ride.
The team also won
first place at the Relay for its T-shirt design.
"Practically everyone
has a loved-one or close friend that's been affected by cancer,"
said Gwen Greenway, captain of the Walton EMC team. "We're
glad to do our small part to help find a cure."
Established in
1936, Walton EMC is a consumer-owned electric cooperative
with 110,000 accounts in ten Northeast Georgia counties between
Atlanta and Athens.
