MONROE, Ga. - Walton Electric Membership
Corporation (EMC) and 26 other Georgia EMCs have joined together
to sponsor 88 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) championship
events during the 2003-2004 school year. These events range
from athletics to debate to one-act play.
The sponsorship includes Coaches'
Corners, a TV partnership with Georgia Public Television (GPTV)
and sponsorship of Prep Sports+, a weekly high school sports
show.
Coaches' Corner
provides a place for coaches to relax, refresh and find out
more about the EMCs' sponsorship of their event. Coaches'
Corners will be held at football, softball, cross-country,
cheerleading, basketball and track championships.
The GPTV partnership
makes possible live TV broadcasts of football semi-finals
and finals in December 2003 and boys' and girls' basketball
finals in March 2004.
Prep Sports+ is
a 30-minute show on high school athletics that airs on Friday
evenings, Saturday mornings and Saturday evenings.
"Walton EMC is
proud to be part of this program because support of the GHSA
reinforces our cooperative's commitment to the community,"
said Walton EMC President/CEO Ronnie Lee. "These students
are our future. It's important to us that we do our part to
develop Georgia's up-and-coming leaders."
2003-2004 marks
the fifth year of EMC support for the GHSA championships.
Through their statewide
network, Georgia's EMCs provide electricity and related services
to 3.9 million people, nearly half of Georgia's population,
across 73 percent of the state's land area. Georgia's EMC
network is the nation's largest.
Established in
1936, Walton EMC is a consumer-owned electric cooperative
with 110,000 accounts in ten Northeast Georgia counties between
Atlanta and Athens.
