MONROE,
Ga. – Walton Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is partnering
with Oconee County to provide the St. Mary's Ambulance Service a
temporary location.
Walton
EMC has agreed to let the Ambulance Service move its Watkinsville
station on Walton EMC's land next to its Watkinsville Operations
Center off Business Route 441.
"We
have the available space," said Walton EMC President/CEO Ronnie
Lee. "We're glad to be able to help both the St. Mary's Ambulance
Service and Oconee County."
"This
will at least give the Ambulance Service more room while keeping
it close to home for Oconee County residents," Lee added.
The
County has provided the Ambulance Service an office next to the
County Sheriff's Office, but over time the Ambulance Service's need
for more space continued to increase.
"This
is a terrific arrangement between Walton EMC and the Oconee County
government," said Melvin Davis, Chairman of the Oconee County Board
of Commissioners. "My experience with Walton EMC is always that
of a cooperative neighbor–willing to go the extra mile."
"I
am pleased to be a partner with Walton EMC to continue providing
an ambulance service to Oconee County to better serve the needs
of the public," Davis added.
Established
in 1936, Walton EMC is a consumer-owned electric cooperative with
over 110,000 accounts in ten Northeast Georgia counties between
Atlanta and Athens.
