MONROE,
Ga. – With the help of 268 motorcyclists, Walton Electric
Membership Corporation raised $6,000 for the American Cancer Society's
Relay for Life at the 3 rd annual Power of Hope Ride.
Cyclists
from North and Central Georgia and North Carolina rolled in to Walton
EMC's Monroe headquarters on September 24 to show their support
for cancer research. The ride, started in 2003, wound through 73
miles of surrounding Georgia Piedmont. Motorcyclists enjoyed a barbecue
lunch, many door prizes and music by the Barking Charley band.
“This
marked the second ride my wife and I participated in and it once
again was outstanding,” said Joe Wozniak of Loganville. “Every year
the biker communities come out and donate their time, gas and money
to a great cause.”
Olivia
Emerick, a five-year old cancer survivor, was to serve as this year's
Honorary Road Captain. She is recovering from a recent hospital
stay with pneumonia. Walton EMC also recognized Zach Chandler of
Good Hope for creating the winning design for the Power of Hope
Ride T-Shirt design contest.
“You
can always count on the motorcycle community for support,” said
Boots Hendricks, team captain for Walton EMC's Relay for Life team.
“We appreciate them coming out and helping us raise money toward
finding a cure for cancer.”
