MONROE,
Ga. – Classic, vintage and customized cars filled Walton
EMC’s parking lot last Saturday to help in the fight against
birth defects.
Owners
brought 83 pampered and prepped cars and trucks from all over
Northeast Georgia to the second annual Willie’s World of
Wheels. The show gets its name from Willie Wiredhand, a cartoon
character fashioned after an electric plug that is the long-time
mascot of customer-owned electric cooperatives nationwide.
Car
enthusiasts enjoyed a day of perfect weather and raised $5,080
for March of Dimes WalkAmerica. Events included the show itself,
a 50/50 drawing, food and sales of car show and March of Dimes
merchandise.
Awards
were given to the top 25 cars at the show as judged by Jeff
Langley and Sandy Malcom of the Streetmasters Car Club. Phillip
Godby, Sr. of Madison won the People’s Choice Award for his 1971
Plymouth Road Runner. Participants and spectators vote for their
favorite car to determine this award.
“We’re
so appreciative to the car enthusiast community for their support,” said
WEMC employee Kathy Ivie, who heads March of Dimes efforts. “Their
passion for their hobby allows them to help others while they
have fun.”
