EMC Annual Meeting Promises Family Fun

MONROE, Ga. – Make plans to attend the 71st annual members' meeting for the Walton Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) on Saturday, June 16. Activities are planned for the whole family at the Walton County Agricultural Education Center off Criswell Road, south of Monroe, GA.
Walton EMC customer-owners can register starting at 8 a.m. while enjoying the music of the Fowler Connection. Young country-rock phenom Moriah Martin will begin singing at 9 a.m. A gospel-singing group, The Calvarymen, will follow Martin.
The first 1,000 customer-owners to register will receive a bucket of gifts that includes a triple-tap electrical cord and a Neolight compact fluorescent light bulb. Registered customer-owners will also be eligible for door prize drawings, including the grand prize, a refurbished Ford pickup truck. Customer- owners who bring the mailing label from their newsletter or who sign up for Operation Round Up at the meeting will be eligible for additional prize drawings.
"This is the customer-owners' chance to participate in running the co-op," says Walton EMC President/CEO Ronnie Lee, "and to enjoy all the activities at Annual Meeting at the same time."
The business session will begin at 10 a.m. No board of directors elections will be held this year, as three incumbent directors were reelected without opposition. Directors represent each district in Walton EMC's 10- county service area.
The exhibitors' tent will feature current information on Walton EMC's programs and services, along with the latest tips on energy efficiency and home security. Operation Sandbox will have an exhibit and will be accepting items for U.S. soldiers in Iraq. Log on to waltonemc.com for a complete list of qualified items.
Athens Regional Medical Center, Davenport Family Chiropractic and Walton Medical Center will conduct blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings at Health Check.
The Oconee Lions Club will also provide vision screening. Customer-owners who drop off used hearing aids and eyeglasses to the Lions Club will receive a free gift from Walton EMC.
Children will stay busy all day at Walton EMC's annual meeting Kids' Fest. Children can play on the moonwalk, the giant inflatable slide and obstacle course, and a mini Ferris wheel. They'll stay entertained watching a clown make their favorite balloon animals and a puppet show under the tent while eating free popcorn, snow cones, ice cream sandwiches and cooling off with a Coke.
