MONROE,
Ga. – Walton
Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is recognizing Grayson High School
in Grayson and Providence Christian School in Lilburn with the Cooperative
Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
The
award, sponsored by Georgia’s EMCs, promotes sportsmanship at Georgia
High School Association (GHSA) competitive events. It honors both student
athletes and those who attend these events for good conduct and character,
making the Cooperative Spirit Sportsman Award a true community achievement.
This
year’s award recognizes sportsmanship exhibited during the 2006-07
school year. The Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Awards are presented annually
to GHSA-member high schools.
The
award presentation for Grayson High School took place at halftime of their
October 19 football game. Providence Christian School’s presentation
will be held at an upcoming home basketball game.
“The cooperative principles
share many characteristics with good sportsmanship,” says Jennifer Broun,
Walton EMC community and youth representative. “Cooperation and commitment
to community are just as important on the high school playing field as they are
to the operation of a customer-owned business like Walton EMC.”
Walton EMC is a customer-owned
power company that serves 116,000 accounts over its ten-county service area
between Atlanta and Athens. It's subsidiary, Walton EMC Natural Gas, serves
natural gas accounts statewide.
