Walton EMC Offers Scholarships to High School Seniors

MONROE, Ga. – Between $25,000 and $50,000 in scholarships will be awarded in the inaugural year of the Walton EMC – Operation Round Up scholarship program.

Scholarships will be available to high school seniors whose primary residence is served by Walton EMC.

Between 10 and 20 scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded for the 2008-2009 school year.

“Walton EMC and Operation Round Up are proud to be able to assist our customer-owners with education related expenses,” says Walton EMC CEO Ronnie Lee. “We have always been a community focused cooperative, and this is just one of many ways we can give back.”

Graduating seniors looking to further their education at an accredited college, university or technical school may apply for a Walton EMC – Operation Round Up scholarship. Applicants must demonstrate a dedication to community, a commitment to academics, a strong work ethic and extracurricular involvement.

Recipients will be selected by a committee comprised of Operation Round Up board members.

Operation Round Up is a program that allows Walton EMC customer-owners to elect to “round up” their bill to the next dollar. The money collected from this program is used to further the goals of local nonprofit organizations and to assist individuals in need.

Funds for the Walton EMC – Operation Round Up scholarship were donated by Walton EMC as a result of a law which allows EMCs to donate unclaimed refunds toward community uses.

Applications are available at area high schools and online at waltonemc.com; they must be received by March 21, 2008.
