MONROE,
Ga. – Anna
Savelle, an Oconee County High School senior, is the winner of a Walter Harrison
Scholarship from Georgia’s Electric Membership Corporations (EMC).
Savelle, sponsored in the contest by Walton EMC, is the daughter of customer-owners
Tim and Amy Savelle of Watkinsville.
Savelle,
sponsored in the statewide contest by Walton EMC, was one of nine $1,000
winners. Designed to help deserving students financially, the scholarship
recognizes academic talent and commitment to community service. Since 1985,
the Walter Harrison program has awarded almost $100,000.
The
scholarship honors the late Walter Harrison, a pioneer in bringing electricity
to Georgians. He helped start the EMCs’ statewide service organization
and served as president of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
Savelle
is active in both FFA and 4-H and serves as president of her local FFA chapter.
She attended the Governor’s Honors Program in agriscience and biotechnology
and plans to double major at the University of Georgia in poultry and animal
science. While at UGA, Savelle will be participating in the honors program.
She also owns and operates her
own business, Anna’s Eggs.
Walton
EMC serves 119,000 accounts over its ten-county service area between Atlanta
and Athens.
