Round
Up Board Re-Focuses Efforts
Refined
direction increases efficiency, helps more people
The
volunteer board that oversees Walton EMC's Operation Round Up has
recently fine-tuned the program's direction.
“We've
re-evaluated Round Up and our major thrust is returning to funding
community groups and organizations that serve the citizens of our
ten-county area,” said Bob Hale, chairman of Walton Electric Trust.
Hale
says community organizations are already in place with established
procedures to attend to the everyday needs of individuals.
“The
increasing number of individuals asking for assistance is putting
a strain on the time and manpower of the Round Up board,” continued
Hale. “We don't have the resources to thoroughly investigate
the exploding number of personal requests.”
“We'll
support groups who are experts at this. They have staff who
can devote time to make sure the Round Up money we give them is
used in the most effective way.”
Round
Up will also continue to support groups that make life better for
entire communities, like fire departments, civic clubs and youth
and educational organizations.
But
that doesn't mean Round Up won't help an individual if it's warranted.
“We'll still help people and families on a one-to-one basis
if they've experienced a catastrophe or extreme emergency,” said
Hale.
With
hardly any effort, you can help Round Up serve others. Walton
EMC automatically rounds your electric bill to the next dollar.
The resulting small change is pooled with thousands of other
customer-owners to make a huge impact.
