More
than $3 Million in Capital Credits Returned to Customer-Owners
You
may be one of them
More than
60 percent of customer-owners will notice a credit on their December bill—their
part of $3 million in capital credits Walton EMC is returning this year.
If you were
a Walton EMC customer-owner in 1983 and/or 2004, you will receive a credit,
appearing as a line item on your December bill as “capital credit refund.” A
total of 89,499 refunds will be made this year.
Capital
credits are the customer-owners’ portion of money left over (margins)
once all expenses are paid. Walton EMC holds margins as a reserve to
retire debt, build equity and to prepare for emergencies. Once sufficient
reserves are accrued, additional money is returned to the customer-owners
as capital credits.
The amount
each customer-owner gets is determined by the amount of electricity he/she
bought during 1983 and 2004.
Walton EMC
returns capital credits because we abide by the seven
cooperative principles. One of those principles is member economic participation, meaning that customer-owners
both contribute to and receive compensation from the cooperative.
As a cooperative,
Walton EMC is owned by those who use our goods and services—you, the
customer-owner. And because we are a cooperative, we are motivated by service,
not profit.
We pride ourselves on providing you, the customer-owner,
with the best quality service. And we are proud to be able to return $3 million
to our customer-owners again this year. That brings our 19-year total to over
$28 million.
