Kim's
Top 10 Holiday Hints
Recently,
hundreds of Walton EMC customer-owners enjoyed our annual holiday programs
where they picked up cooking, entertaining and decorating tips. For those
of you who couldn’t make it, here’s a recap of holiday hints
from Kim McKinney, one of the presenters:
10. Make
a holiday tool box and equip with scissors, wire cutters, can of spray glitter,
glue gun and glue sticks, sticky wax for holding candles in place, sticky
felt dots in all sizes, floral tape, oasis tape, nylon line, paddle of florist
wire, twist ties and ornament hooks.
9. Use over-scale
ornaments on your tree. Large balls and stars have a huge impact. Though
oversized decorations may cost a bit more, you won’t need many (about
a dozen for an average tree) and the effect is stunning.
8. Don’t
skimp on tree lights. For every vertical foot of tree, use a strand of 100
lights. Don’t be afraid to mix and match lights. There’s
no rule stating that you can only use one kind.
7. Use decorations
that shimmer and reflect light. They make everything festive and prevent
a flattened look.
6. Use clear
storage tubs to make it easier to find what you need when you need
it.
5. When
in doubt, decorate with live greenery and tree lights.
4. Keep
an entertaining closet. Have ready tablecloths, candles, napkins, oasis,
etc.
3. Always
have gifts ready for unexpected gift giving emergencies.
2. Don’t sweat tiny details. It is the overall illusion that makes everything
look festive, not the little tiny details.
1. Do as much as you can the night
before the party to avoid stress.
