Walton
EMC is seeking four local high school sophomores or juniors to
attend the 42nd annual Washington Youth Tour this June. The tour
is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with all expenses paid by
Walton EMC.
 |
| Walton EMC Delegates Stephen Motter, Kelli McLane, Claire
Dellinger and Sarvesh Garimella improved their leadership skills
and learned how their government works during the 2006 Washington
Youth Tour |
The
co-op’s delegates meet and talk with Georgia’s Congressional
representatives and participate in teambuilding and leadership
activities. They also make friends with hundreds of delegates
from across Georgia and the country.
Starting
in Atlanta, delegates participate in icebreakers and meet state
leaders, like Governor Sonny Perdue, and legislators. They also
get an up-close look at what it takes to manage Georgia’s
electric power supply. Along with tours of Atlanta landmarks,
delegates visit Roosevelt’s Little White House in Warm
Springs.
Then
it’s time to hop a jet to Washington.
The
Washington highlight is a luncheon with Georgia’s Congressional
delegation. Other past stops include the White House, Capital,
National Holocaust Museum, the Kennedy Center and Arlington National
Cemetery, where delegates participate in a wreath-laying ceremony.
Social
activities include the All-States’ Dance, a riverboat cruise
on the Potomac and a stop at the Hard Rock Café.
The
Washington Youth Tour gives these local students a new insight
to our state and national governments and what it takes to be
a leader.
