WEMC
Announces Youth Tour Winners
Annual
Competition Sends Students to Washington
 |
| Finalists in the recent Walton EMC Washington
Youth Tour competition are (front, l to r) Johathan Scoggins (winner),
Nathan Jones, Brandon Lewis (winner), Emily Williams, Jordan Daniell,
(back l to r) Jimmy Jia (winner) Blake Vander Wood (winner) and Dillon
Horne. |
First it
was 50. Then 27. That narrowed to eight. In the end, four emerged as winners.
Jimmy Jia
of Parkview, Brandon Lewis of South Gwinnett, Blake Vander Wood of Brookwood
and Jonathan Scoggins, a home schooler, worked their way through the competition
to secure their spot on the 42nd Walton EMC Washington Youth Tour.
The four
winners were among the top eight scorers on a written test, the first
part of the elimination process. Judges chose them after interviewing all
eight finalists.
The first
stop for this year’s delegates will be Atlanta, where they’ll
participate in teambuilding exercises. A side trip to the Little White House
in Warm Springs will show them the birthplace of cooperative electrification.
Once in
Washington, highlights include a luncheon with Georgia’s
Congressional delegation, a tour of the White House and participation
in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
High school sophomores and juniors who live or go
to school in Walton EMC’s service territory are eligible to apply. Information
for next year’s tour will be available in January in the newsletter and
at waltonemc.com.
