Include
Energy Savings in Vacation Plans
Going
on vacation this summer? Make sure your home’s energy use gets a
break too.
Simple
tips can save money while you’re away:

Air
Conditioning
Set
the thermostat to 85 degrees. If you have a programmable thermostat, use
the hold or vacation setting to keep your home at that temperature.
Water
Heating
Turn
the electrical breaker feeding the water heater off. Leave a reminder to
turn it back on when you get home.
Pools
and Hot Tubs
Shorten
the operating time for the pool circulating pump and automatic cleaner
(if applicable). Decrease the operating temperature of hot tubs.
Electronics
Computers,
CD/DVD players, TVs, VCRs and other electronic appliances use electricity
even when they’re not on. Unplug them before leaving.
Lighting
Improve energy savings and security
by using timers to operate lights each night. By installing compact fluorescent
bulbs in those lights, you’ll save as much as 75 percent in energy and
get 10 times longer bulb life.
