Automated
Meter Reading Begins

Look Ma, no moving parts!
Electronic AMR meters like the one on the left are inherently more accurate
than older mechanical meters because they have no moving parts to wear out.
Walton
EMC’s first step in reading your electric meter automatically
begins this month in parts of northern Walton County.
Automated
meter reading (AMR) enables us to receive the kilowatt-hour reading from
your meter through our power lines. This means meter readers will no longer
make the monthly trip to your home or business.
Employees
will still check meters periodically for routine maintenance and safety inspections.
Approximately
4,800 customer-owners served by our Campton substation will be the first
to get new electronic meters (see the sidebar for more specific locations).
At the same time, equipment necessary to receive the reading at our office
will be installed and tested.
A
familiar Walton EMC contractor, Tru-Check, will be installing the new meters.
The installation will require a brief power outage at your home or business.
Besides
reduced visits to your property, there are several other advantages to AMR:
- Saves
money, labor and fuel.
- Increases
the accuracy of your bill.
- Provides
daily electricity use data that can help in solving high bills.
- Aids
and speeds up power outage assessment.
- Paves the way for future
services and enhancements.
