New
Cell Phone?
Put
the old one to good use
Through
a partnership between Walton EMC and the Georgia
Lions Lighthouse, your old
cell phone can help save someone’s sight.

The
Cells for Sight program recycles old cell phones and uses the money to help
Georgians who need eye surgery for cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and detached
retinas.
“The
Lighthouse helps those who fall through the cracks,” says Lighthouse
Board Member and WEMC Customer-Owner Dan Stuart.
Stuart
also says malpractice concerns have cut into the amount of service doctors
are able to donate to the Lighthouse. This means the Lighthouse has to make
up the shortfall.
How
It Works
- Drop
off your old cell phones at our business offices in Snellville, Monroe or
Watkinsville.
- A
local Lions Club member collects the phones and sends them to the Georgia
Lions Lighthouse.
- The
Lighthouse sells the phones to a recycling company.
- The
money comes back to pay for eye surgeries.
So far this year, donated cell
phones have paid for three sight-saving surgeries. For each dollar the Lighthouse
spends, it receives $3.87 in services.
