Customer-owners participating
in Walton EMC's Operation Round Up allow their electric bill to be rounded
to the next dollar each month. The resulting change goes to help worthy causes
in our community.
Here
is the list of the latest community groups to receive Round Up grants and
how the money will be used:
City
of Statham Library–$2,500
Purchase
new library books.
Prevent
Blindness Georgia–$10,000
Children’s
vision screening program providing early detection and identification of
children with significant visual impairment.
Upper
Ocmulgee River RC&D–$8,000
Wheels
to Work program providing vehicles for purchase by low-income clients through
an affordable no interest, no down payment loan.
Walker
Park Elementary Science Club–$4,100
Educational
trip for fourth and fifth graders with a strong interest in science that
also includes curriculum guides and assessments.
Prevent
Child Abuse Athens–$5,000
First
Steps program that attempts to prevent child abuse before it happens by providing
parental training and resources.
New
London Theatre–$7,200
Purchase
royalties and scripts to provide community participation in all aspects of
theatre production.
Disabled
American Veterans–$5,000
Van
to transport veterans to clinics in Athens, Atlanta and Augusta.
Gwinnett
Sexual Assault Center–$10,000
Forensic
medical equipment to meet the physical, psychological and emotional needs
of those victimized by sexual assault or abuse.
Five
Community Families–$6,815
Emergency
needs.
The

in our communities.
