Local
Student Wins Statewide EMC Scholarship
Anna
Savelle, an Oconee County High School senior, is the winner of a Walter
Harrison Scholarship from Georgia’s EMCs. Savelle, sponsored in the contest
by Walton EMC, is the daughter of customer-owners Tim and Amy Savelle of
Watkinsville.
Designed
to help deserving students financially, the scholarship recognizes academic
talent and commitment to community service. Since 1985, the Walter Harrison
program has awarded almost $100,000.
The
scholarship is named to honor the late Walter Harrison, a Georgia cooperative
electrification pioneer.
Savelle
is active in both FFA and 4-H and serves as president of her local FFA chapter.
She attended the Governor’s Honors Program in agriscience and biotechnology
and plans to double major at the University of Georgia in poultry and animal
science. While at UGA, Savelle will be participating in the honors program.
She also owns and operates her
own business, Anna’s Eggs.
