Survey Again Shows Walton EMC Consumers Pay Below Average

MONROE, Ga. – Walton Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) customer-owners just received great news from the latest Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) Residential Rate Survey.

The winter version of the twice-yearly study shows that Walton EMC consumers pay less than the average Georgia consumer for their electric power.

At 1,500 kilowatt-hours (kWh), the closest survey level to what the average Walton EMC residential customer-owner used in January (1,536 kWh), the cooperative was seven percent lower than the statewide average and 15 percent lower than Georgia Power. It was $84.23 lower than the state’s highest-charging utility.

Walton EMC bills were also below average in what consumers paid for lower (1,000 kWh) and higher (2,000 kWh) electricity usage.

The survey ranks utilities by electric bill dollar amounts for various kilowatt-hour usage levels. Surveys are conducted twice yearly with the winter survey using January rates. All electric providers in Georgia participate. The entire survey is available at psc.ga.gov.

“Because Walton EMC is owned by its customers, providing reliable service at the lowest possible cost is our main focus,” said CEO Ron Marshall. “First, every employee works hard to keep our expenses down to provide the most value for our customer-owners. Second, we continually seek out the best price for wholesale power to keep rates low.”

Walton EMC is an innovative, customer-owned and -focused electric utility serving accounts in 10 Northeast Georgia counties between Atlanta and Athens. In its long history of meeting customer-owners’ needs, the cooperative established successful natural gas and security subsidiaries as well as nationally recognized residential and commercial solar initiatives.
