For a little over three hours on a warm, summer morning, the gunfire was continuous as the battle raged against a deadly foe.

That enemy was breast cancer and the battle took place on a sporting clays course.

A record number of shooters recently came together at the Cherokee Rose Shooting Resort to participate in Walton EMC’s 12th annual charity shoot. This year’s shoot benefitted the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

Four-person teams shot a 100-target course of clay pigeons thrown in different settings. Prizes were awarded to the high scoring men’s and women’s teams as well as high individual scorers. All shooters had chances to win one of many door prizes and raffles.

The Georgia 2-Day Walk supports a number of breast cancer organizations throughout the state. Their main event, the walk itself, occurs annually in October. Walton EMC employees have raised a total of $270,000 for the cause.

Watch for details on next year’s shoot that will take place around mid-August.
