Plugged In: Why should I participate in Walton EMC’s Annual Meeting?

Question: Why should I participate in Walton EMC’s Annual Meeting?

The difference between Walton EMC and other power companies is that we are owned and democratically controlled by those we serve. That’s you! Participating in the Annual Meeting — even a drive-through event — is your opportunity to have a say in running the co-op. (Plus, there’s the traditional bucket of gifts. Who doesn’t like that?)

Besides the gifts, you should attend the co-op’s 86th Annual Meeting because:

YOUR VOTE COUNTS. The most important facet of the Annual Meeting is the election of customer-owners who serve as directors. Directors represent fellow customer-owners in setting the policies and general direction that will be followed by Walton EMC’s management and staff. In this way, the co-op is regulated by its customers. This year, three board seats are up for election. Read the Nominating Committee report at waltonemc.com/annualmeeting before casting your vote in person at the meeting.

WE CAN BREAK THE RECORD. Last year, 1,966 customer-owners attended the Annual Meeting — the highest attendance our co-op has ever recorded. This year’s convenient drive-through meeting makes it easy to exercise the cooperative principle of democratic customer-owner control while helping to set a new attendance record.

As a customer-owner of Walton EMC, your voice and vote is important. Take the time to pick up your gift bucket and make your membership count at the Annual Meeting.
