Walton EMC’s cooperative solar projects provide access to consumers who might otherwise be excluded from owning and installing their own solar electricity generation.
Obstacles like improper roof orientation, excessive roof shading, restrictive subdivision covenants or landlord prohibitions are frequent barriers to homeowners and renters who want to install solar systems.
As a Walton EMC customer-owner, you can receive solar electricity according to your needs and interests. Every month, the energy output of your portion will be calculated and credited to your bill. This solar energy will offset energy produced from traditional fuels.
Our first one-megawatt solar project occupies approximately six acres adjacent to the east side of the Walton EMC headquarters complex. Our second 2 1/2-megawatt project occupies approximately 18 acres on a site four miles south of Monroe off Georgia Highway 11. These sites are expected to produce approximately 7 million kilowatt-hours of solar electricity per year.
Our third site on Gratis Road, three miles north of Monroe, almost doubled our solar electricity production. It adds another three megawatts and brings the total of all projects to 6.5 megawatts.

Blocks of solar electricity are $25 each per month and are expected to produce between 180 and 260 kilowatt-hours of solar electricity monthly. Energy output will vary due to the sun’s angle, the time of year, the number of cloudy days in the month and other factors.
You can sign up for up to two blocks of solar electricity. Requests for more than two blocks will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Only residences served by our electric grid can participate.
Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis. Call us at 770-267-2505 to apply. We are not able to take online requests at this time. If blocks are sold out, a waiting list is available.
You will be billed $25 for each block of solar electricity. The kilowatt-hours produced by your block in each calendar month will offset the same number of kilowatt-hours on your bill.
If your block produces more kilowatt-hours than you use during your billing period, you will receive a credit for the excess. You will be informed of any price change at least 30 days in advance.
You can discontinue your solar energy commitment at any time by notifying us. If you leave the program, Walton EMC cannot guarantee there will be availability if you decide to rejoin.
