There are many ways to save money and energy in your home, and the good news is, most of them aren’t too difficult. Check out our list of ways to save energy and think about implementing some of them into your home this month!
Turn off the Lights – This seems simple, but many of us are guilty of leaving lights on when we leave the room. Turn off the lights when you leave a room and don’t have them on if you don’t need them!
Weatherize Your Home – There are several things you can do to make your home itself more energy efficient. Using things like caulk or weather strips can help seal up your house or apartment and keep the energy in. You can also make bigger purchases like new windows that are specifically made to improve energy efficiency.
Upgrade Your Appliances – This is another big purchase you can make. Don’t feel like you have to go out and buy all new appliances now because that can get expensive, but think about getting energy efficient appliances when you do need to upgrade. These appliances could save you a lot of money on your energy bill in the long run!
Install or Use a Programmable Thermostat – Many homes have a programmable thermostat, but if you don’t, you can consider installing one. The advantage of having one is you can program your heating/cooling system to be off or low when you aren’t going to be in the house.
Be Mindful of Your Fridge – Refrigerators are a huge use of energy in the house. You can benefit from being mindful about where your fridge is placed. If you put your fridge near the stove, dishwasher or heat vents, it will have to use more energy to stay cool, so if you can, keep it away from hot areas/appliances.
These are just a few ways you can save some money and energy. We hope you try them out!
