Money for College

Tell a Student Today: Walton EMC is Awarding $4,000 Scholarships

Do you know a community-minded, involved student who could use some help paying for college? Then send him or her the link to this post now because the deadline to apply for a $4,000 Walton Electric Trust Scholarship is Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Apply for a Walton Electric Trust Scholarship by January 31.

Each year, the Walton Electric Trust, Inc. awards scholarships to high school seniors or incoming college freshmen who live in a home served by Walton EMC electricity. The scholarship can be used to fund post-secondary education at any accredited college, university or vocational-technical school.

Applicants are evaluated on work ethic, triumph over obstacles, community service and extracurricular activities. The scholarship committee also reviews recommendations from teachers and other adults involved in a student-applicant’s life.

In 2017, the Walton Electric Trust awarded scholarships to 61 students.

Last year, the Trust presented $4,000 scholarships to 33 students. Another 28 were awarded runner-up scholarships of $1,000. The Trust has awarded 447 scholarships worth $1,013,000 since the program began in 2009.

“Fostering the education of students living in our 10-county service area is another way Walton EMC demonstrates its steadfast commitment to improving the quality of life in our communities,” says CEO Ronnie Lee.

The scholarships are funded by unclaimed refunds to former Walton EMC customer-owners. After all efforts are exhausted to find the rightful owners, the money goes into an endowment provided for by Georgia law.

Applications are due no later than Wednesday, Jan. 31st
