Don’t Let Energy Vampires Suck You Dry!

There may actually be monsters under your bed, in your kitchen, and in your living room. If you are like most Americans, you are the victim of energy vampires!

What is an energy vampire? Well, it can be many things: it can be your cell phone charger, a TV, a computer, or even a microwave. If you leave your cell phone charger plugged in even when you aren’t charging your phone, it continuously draws energy. The same can happen with a TV that isn’t turned on or a microwave not in use; those products are still sucking your energy and adding more to your monthly electric bill.

So, how do you kill an energy vampire? There are a few things that you can do:

Use A Power Strip: Power strips allow you to turn off the flow of electricity without unplugging everything you own. If you have a few things plugged into a power strip, you can toggle the power off when you aren’t using it so it won’t suck out energy when you’re not around.

Unplug Devices You Don’t Use Often: If you have an extra TV or an old computer that you don’t use very often, consider unplugging them when you aren’t using them. Also, take a minute to unplug your phone charger every time you are done charging it!

Try An ENERGY STAR Appliance: When you go to upgrade appliances, there are some that are better than others when it comes to saving energy. ENERGY STAR appliances help you improve your energy efficiency.

Your heating, cooling and lighting are a big part of your energy bill, but devices like TV’s and computers can also suck up energy even when you’re not using them. Use these tips and don’t let the energy vampires get you down!
